Mazda’s social media accounts just released the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for the MkII CX-5, which it seems will lead the way for the second generation of Mazda’s SkyActiv campaign. The new CUV will debut next month at the LA Auto Show.

A little bit of editing in Photoshop seems to indicate that the next CX-5's styling will be consistent with the gradual evolution of the Kodo design language that has been happening since the MkI CX-5 debuted for the 2013 model year.

My guess is a CX-5 with the face of a CX-9, and with more turbo engines.

It looks like the entire car is getting an overhaul to look like a mini CX-9, not just the front end. Smoothed out belt line, rounder wheel arches, less prominent detailing on the lower half of the doors, and of course the bigger, flashier grill. Whereas the current CX-5 looks like the mid-way point between the old Nagare and the new Kodo, it appears the new one will be more consistent with the look of the rest of Mazda’s lineup.

I’m personally doubting turbocharging, as Mazda basically only did it in the CX-9 because their platform didn’t support larger displacement engines, and they’ve shown opposition to it otherwise.

I’m excited! I think the current CX-5 needs a little bit of a refresh and from this and spy photos, I think it looks great.
